Feb 23, 2011 - Austrian climbing specialist Thomas Rohregger has signed for the Leopard-Trek team following the last-minute collapse of Australian outfit Pegasus, his new team announced Wedneday.
Rohregger was one of several cyclists to sign up for Pegasus, however he was left on the sidelines after the team failed to gain a Professional Continental licence for 2011.
Formerly with German team Milram, who pulled out of the professional peloton last year, the Austrian is expected to prove his value in the mountains of one-week and three-week stage races.
"Thomas comes to us a little late in the signing process and through the misfortune of another team's license application," Leopard's gneral manager Brian Nygaard said in a team statement.
"But we are really glad to have him at any time. I am sure he will add greatly to our team."
"I couldn't be happier about having the opportunity to race with such a strong team," said Rohregger, who is based in the mountainous Tyrol region of Austria.
