The Montefalco first premiered in 2008 and the response was so positive that Torelli has left the bike largely unchanged since then. Thanks to tube to tube construction the small tweaks they did choose to make, a new stiffer head tube lay up and redesigned seat stays, did little to effect the bikes extremely competitive price point; $1799.00 for frame and fork.

The most distinctive feature is the use of some exposed 12K carbon weave. The wider weave pattern is essentially unused in the industry today, giving the Montefalco its own clear identity. This 12k weave is laid over 3k carbon weave on the majority of the frame, while 1k weave is used at the head tube. That head tube gets very clean internal guides ensuring no holes are drilled in sensitive tube junctions. 

With robust tube shapes, a tapered steer tube, and straight blade forks the bike is not designed as a comfort cruiser. It’s more concerned with getting you to the top of a climb or a city limit sign quickly, than the coffee shop comfortably. Torelli is also not shy about admitting some of the tube shapes have been chosen because they are flat out sexy. This race ready ride feel is enhanced by very low frame weight for its price range; under 900 grams for an extra small.

Peloton’s test bike came equipped with SRAM Force. Torelli aluminum stem, carbon bars and seat post round out the cockpit package. Torelli also supplies the wheels, pretty special 1380 gram Ultra Lights with ceramic bearings. They do come with a 180 lb rider limit, which doesn’t make a lot of sense for a frame the size of our test bike, 58cm. Cost for this build is $3660.

Despite the low price, Torelli is committed to local bike shops, allowing them to customize each build so it’s a perfect match for its rider. Handle bar width and drop, stem length and angle, crank length and gearing, saddles and cassettes, can all be swapped out at the shop with no additional charge and no long waiting period.
