Stages Cycling Joins Novo Nordisk STAGES / RAMON
Jan 3, 2013 — Stages Cycling has announced an additional sponsorship agreement with Team Novo Nordisk, a professional continental cycling team. Stages Cycling will be the exclusive power meter supplier to the team for 2013.

The whole of the Team Novo Nordisk cycling program — including the professional elite, women’s, and development programs — will race and train exclusively on the Stages Power meter.

“We’re very excited to be a part of Team Novo Nordisk’s 2013 racing program,” said Matt Pacocha, marketing manager for Stages Cycling. “More than just racing on the professional stage, this team and its athletes are working for a greater good within the global diabetes community. We’re also pleased that the team’s physiological staff found the features of the Stages Power meter able to meet their high scientific standards. We feel this speaks volumes to the relevance of our power meter — if it’s good enough for a professional continental team with a focus on physiological performance, then it’s surely all anyone needs to better their racing or riding performance.”

The physiological staff will be lead by Dr. Iñigo San Millán, the director of the Exercise Physiology and Human Performance Laboratory at the Anschutz Health & Wellness Center, which is part of the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

“We are very happy to have Stages Cycling on board to measure power for Team Novo Nordisk,” said San Millán. “Our athletes will be competing at the highest level of the sport and they have an important challenge, so we need to pay lots of attention to improve their performance. For this, power data collection is indispensable and with the meters provided Stages will be of great value to our team.”

San Millán will lead a five person performance research team that will track and monitor the athletes — who are all managing their diabetes every day.

Phil Southerland, Team Novo Nordisk’s co-founder and CEO, made the decision to build the team’s 2013 roster entirely from racers dealing with diabetes in order to best meet the team goal of instilling hope and inspiration to the global population dealing with this disease.

"I'm thrilled to partner with Stages Cycling for the power training needs of Team Novo Nordisk,” said Southerland. “We have a great team, a great mission, however, we are going to have to pay attention to every detail to succeed. Stages Power is cool new technology, and something our riders have embraced with open arms.”
