Vos Makes it Five AFP / YUZURU SUNADA
Marianne Vos of the Netherlands won the World Cyclo-cross Championships in Koksijde, Belgium, finishing 38-seconds in front of compatriot Van Den Brand Daphny and Belgian Sanne Cant. This was Vos's fifth world title, which equals the record of German Hanka Kupfernagel.

"It was not my goal to reach Kupfernagel with five titles, but it's fantastic," said the Dutch champion.

Despite the technical course Vos dominated the race, taking a an early and comfortable lead. As Vos rode solo off the front Van den Brand and Sanne van Paassen gave chase before being caught by Cant, Katerina Nash and Sophie de Boer. This group was joined by Katie Compton, Jasmin Achermann and Nikki Harris on the third lap.

The group would eventually fracture due to attacks from Cant and Van den Brand. Cant, Van den Brand and Van Paassen were then able to establish a small gap on the remaining chasers and fight out the podium amongst themselves. In the final sections Van Paassen lost ground and drifted back to fourth as Cant pulled ahead of Van den Brand into the final straight. However, in the end she couldn't match Van den Brand in the sprint and was forced to settle for third.
