The Euskaltel-Euskadi team has always been determined to out do themselves, and 2012 appears to be no exception. After a strong 2011 season, the men in orange look to surpass their win tally from last year. The team was presented yesterday and is led by Gerrikagoitia Gorka, who returns as General Manager, along with Miguel Madariaga, Alvaro Gonzalez de Galdeano and Inaki Isasi as Director Sporfits.
Last year the Basque team scored victories in the Tour of the Basque Country, Tour de Romandie, and the Grand Prix Miguel Indurain. In addition Igor Anton and Mikel Nieve managed the first two victories ever for the team in the Giro d'Italia. This was capped by Samuel Sanchez's stage 14 victory to Luz Ardiden in the Tour de France.
In 2012 Nieve will aim for the Giro d'Italia, while Anton will again target Vuelta a España. In the Tour de France, Samuel Sanchez will be responsible for leading the team and try to ride as high as possible in the general classification. Sanchez enters the race hoping to increase his number of stage wins and improve his sixth place from last year.
The team for 2012, includes new recruits Victor Cabedo, Ricardo Garcia and Adrian Sáez, all from the Orbea Continental team. They join returning riders Sanchez, Anton and Nieve, as well as Romain Sicard, Mikel Astarloza, Amets Txurruka, Egoi Martinez, Gorka Verdugo, Jorge Azanza, Juanjo Oroz, Alan and Ruben Perez, Ivan Velasco, brothers, Jon Gorka Izagirre, Paul Urtasun, Miguel Minguez, Pierre Cazaux, Mikel Landa and Pello Bilbao.
