Getting older on the bike means many things, choosing your attacks more wisely, taking nutrition a little more seriously and for some riders, struggling to read your Garmin. Dual Power Eyewear offers a solution, riding sunglasses with a little magnification area just where you need it to be to see your cycling computer clearly. But, these aren’t the reading you glasses you buy at the drug store.

With three styles to chose from, we rode the Dual V6, a wrap around pair with enough styling to feel current, but not so trendy you feel the need to wear your hat backwards.

The lenses are a scratch-resistant and shatter proof polycarbonate and you get two choices for tint, a neutral tint they call smoke or a brown tint.

The magnifications cover most levels your basic reading glasses do, +1.5, +2.0 and +2.5, although Dual Eyes recommends you get a bit weaker than your reading prescription, as your bike computer is just about an arms length away.

On the bike the magnification is perfect, resolving even the smallest text on your computer without having to move your head much, just tilt your eyes down and there it is. While the location and size of the magnification is optimized for your computer, it is a bit small for normal reading, such as making a call on the bike or shuffling songs on your iPod. Reading the paper at the coffee shop, mid ride, also takes a bit of getting used to.

As far as riding glasses go, they offer a snug, confident fit, without being too tight. The TPR-50a nose pieces were comfortable, but did slide a bit on very hot, sweaty days. The non-magnified portion of the lens offered crystal clear wrap around viewing with absolutely no distortion. The hinges have stayed nice and tight, the lenses have not scratched easily and the finish on the frame still looks great after 2 months of riding. Very impressive actually as the fit, styling and function of the gasses has turned them into everyday sun glasses, perfect for a day at the beach to make sure the beer you grab from the cooler isn’t a lite beer.

Considering the quality of the glasses and their unique capabilities the pricing is quite amazing, $49.95. There are dedicated sunglasses costing twice as much as this that are made to a lower standard. If you suffer trying to read your computer while riding, try Dual Eyes. Chances are, you will love them on the bike, and may find all your other expensive sunglasses getting dusty.
