The road group we all know and love would not exist without Campagnolo – two Campy patents, the quick release and the parallelogram derailleur changed everything. Since then the innovation has continued. It was Campy that pushed the cassette to 9 speeds, then 10 and most recently 11.
In 1983 Campagnolo celebrated their 50th anniversary and to commemorate the milestone they released a special group. Based on the Cobalto and Record groups of the era, the 50th anniversary group featured a gold dust cap on the cranks and Tulio Campagnolo’s signature. 10,000 of these groups were made, each individually numbered. While group number one is in Campagnolo’s headquarters, group number two was famously presented to the Pope. This 50th anniversary group has become a classic. Low serial numbers, never mounted to a bike and still in the decorative box, command $10,000.
Now, 30 years later, Campagnolo is celebrating their 80th year with another commemorative group. Rather than use their latest innovation, the first 11 speed electronic group, Super Record 11 EPS, Campagnolo decide to pay homage to their past with an 80th anniversary edition of their flag ship mechanical group, Super Record 11. This new group will undoubtedly become the ultimate accessory for the latest from Pinarello or Colnago.

A new sanding process and finishing procedure combine with a celebratory 80th anniversary logo to give this Super Record 11 a look worthy of the brand’s storied past while reminding us of the innovation to come. With the buttery smooth feel we have come to expect from Campy, driving 11 speeds, weighing only 1862 grams and in limited supply, this 80th anniversary group is sure to be as collectible as the 50th anniversary group.

With an eye toward the incredible wheel sets Campagnolo has debuted in the thirty years since the 50th anniversary group they are producing two 50mm deep aero carbon clinchers. Both feature two of Campy’s most popular innovations, G3 spoke patterns and cult bearings. One set utilizes an aluminum brake track and weighs 1590grams, while the full carbon version weighs only 1310grams.
