Topolino has always been unique among wheel companies.They mate thermo plastic carbon hubs and hybrid carbon fiber spokes to very traditional 20mm deep aluminum rims, turning the typical uses of these materials upside down.
The CX 2.0 has a reputation as the prefect companion for long miles and rough road with fantastic vertical compliance and an amazing ability to reduce hash roads to buttery smoothness. This is due to those hybrid carbon spokes that run un-interrupted, rim to rim, and are molded into the carbon hubs. Those fibers are simply no good at transmitting vibration, meaning that vibration never reaches you. A healthy dose of kevlar is also used to ensure the carbon canwithstand impacts.
For very big and powerful riders the down side has been a slight sluggishness when you really hit the gas as the hybrid fiber spokes rebound from your effort. Enter CTR 2.0 True Black. Topolino has increased the carbon content of the spokes to up the stiffness quotient considerably. The new recipe has been incredibly successful. The wheels retain the majority of their smooth as silk ride quality while delivering much better big effort responsiveness.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of all this is the CTR2.0’s didn’t gain a gram of weight over the CX 2.0’s, still an incredible 1360grams. Super light for an aluminum clincher. That light-weight, with the added stiffness, makes the Topolino one of the fastest accelerating clinchers available as you twist the throttle on the climbs or jump out of a criterium corner.
