The UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team has spent the past week in Spain preparing and training for this weekend's Clasica de Almeria. The February 27th race will be the Team's second on European soil under its Pro Continental status. Scheduled to race this weekend for the Team's eight-man roster are Jonathan Clarke, Robert Förster, Chris Jones Christian Meier, Morgan Schmitt, Rory Sutherland, Boy Van Poppel, and Brad White.
For the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team, the Clasica de Almeria comes on the heels of its first race in Europe, last week's Volta ao Algarve. As the Team continues to focus on the factors that have landed it atop five podiums, including one win, this early in the season, it is clear teamwork has been the most critical factor to its success thus far.
"Our goal is to continue racing hard and to be competitive here in Europe," said General Manager and Directeur Sportif, Mike Tamayo. "We're excited to be in this year's Clasica de Almeria. Last week in Portugal, our guys raced hard, stayed together, and competed well against a world-class field in Algarve. That was a great test for us. This weekend will be no different and we expect good things on the bike from Team UnitedHealthcare on Sunday." The Clasica de Almeria is a one-day race 179.5 kilometers in length, starting and ending in the coastal city of Almeria in Southern Spain. The course features 3 categorized climbs, yet ends with a descent and a flat run to the finish line favoring a bunch sprint finale. Recent winners of the race include Theo Bos (2010), former Team member Greg Henderson (2009), and J.J. Haedo (2008).
