After recently announcing two new Belgian Waffle Ride (BWR) events—in Asheville, North Carolina, and Cedar City, Utah—Monuments of Cycling, the promoter behind the original Belgian Waffle Ride held each May in San Diego, is bringing together all three BWR events into the Tripel Crown of Gravel series.

PELOTON

While each individual BWR event will offer prize purses for the top five men and women, those competing in all three races will have the chance to win the Tripel Crown. This honor will be awarded to the top three men and women based on accumulative time across the three events, much like how the general classification in a stage race is scored. The series kicks off with the Asheville, North Carolina, edition on August 30, 2020, followed by the Cedar City, Utah, edition on October 17, 2020. The series concludes with the 2021 edition of the original San Diego edition, to be held on May 2, 2021. The 2020 San Diego edition is not part of the series.

Covering off-road and tarmac sectors around North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, the Asheville edition will be the first BWR event held outside of California. The event’s start, finish and expo will take place at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company’s Mills River location. Monuments of Cycling says riders should expect a little bit of everything, including rolling mountain passes, rough and rocky outcroppings, lake views, dense forests and rivers and waterfalls over the course of 144 miles and 20 off-road sectors.

The Cedar City edition brings the first BWR ride at elevation, adding another level of difficulty from a promoter known for challenging courses. Monuments of Cycling is calling this the first true gravel BWR race, filled “with the most coveted decomposed granite roads and off-road sectors throughout [Southern Utah].” The 137-mile course features Red Hills, the Parowan Gap along Little Salt Lake, Coal and Whitney Canyons and Granite Mountain.

Online registration for all events, including the Tripel Crown of Gravel Series, opens February 18, 2020, at 9 a.m. PST. Register at at BelgianWaffleRide.Bike.
