On The Throne: Pinarello Dogma F Disc
The latest generation of Pinarello’s grand tour-conquering Dogma is here, and this time Pinarello is ditching the numerical naming system used for the bike’s previous generations. Called the Dogma F, it doesn’t appear to be much of a departure from the previous do-everything Dogma models, but under the hood there are many important changes that take this already phenomenal model to another level.

For some people—unless you’re a week-one breakaway specialist that knows he’ll only hold the Maillot Jaune for a day or two—going Full Yellow before the final stage in Paris is a bit of a no-no. Not so for 2020 winner Tadej Pogačar, his UAE Emirates team, nor his bike sponsor Colnago, who supplied the 22-year-old Slovenian with this beauty shortly after he took the lead in this year’s race after stage 8 to La Grand Bornand.

If you’re Tom Boonen then you can have any bicycle you want. As a professional rider, Boonen often rode prototypical frames, newly engineered carbon designs that hadn’t even come to the market. And while the tall Belgian from Mol always seemed so superhuman among the bergs and cobbles of Flanders, at the end of the day, he’s really just like us. These days, his ride of choice is a marriage of new technology and handmade cycling heritage from his Flemish homeland. The appeal of a unique steel bike that doesn’t look like anyone else’s and the ability to be a part of the building process has the retired icon—and Flanders’ youngest Lion—doting over his new custom steel rig, built by Flemish custom cycling outfit Jaegher.

Deep down we all have a desire to own the best bikes on the market—those ridden by our heroes at the biggest races. But you know how it goes: They cost a pretty penny. Most of us can’t afford super-bikes like the Pinarello Dogma F12. And even those of us who can afford them can understandably have a hard time ponying up the cash when the prices head into the five-figure range. Luckily, Pinarello has not so much “trickled down” tech from the Dogma F12 to the new Prince Disk but “cranked the faucet” wide open.
