Any visitor pedaling through Ojai’s beautiful downtown has another Ojai visitor to thank for it – Edward Drummond Libbey. From the state, and near homonym, of Ohio, Libbey made a fortune in the glass business and spent his leisure time in Ojai. When a huge fire burned much of Ojai’s downtown in 1917, Libbey spearheaded and financed the rebuild, replacing the town’s western look with a Spanish style arcade and four story tower Post Office Bell Tower, that is now one of Ventura County’s most important landmarks.
