Most mountain bikers will be familiar with 100% not just for its wide selection of performance sunglasses, but also for its other protective gear, including helmets. Now 100% is branching into another off-road riding discipline that has caught the eye of mountain bikers and roadies alike: gravel. The new Altis Gravel helmet aims to deliver performance at a more widely attainable price point, along with enhanced safety from a new technology meant to combat angular impacts.

Priced at $100, the Altis Gravel hits an affordable price point in a market where helmets can go for three times as much, and it packs an important safety feature that we think all helmets should have in one version or another, regardless of price point. The Smartshock Rotational Protective System is 100%’s answer to mitigating the impacts of oblique forces in crashes, serving the same purpose as MIPS liners adopted across the industry or SPIN technology used by POC. 100%’s system uses a series of elastomers incorporated into the helmet, 11 in the case of the Altis, which move independently from the helmet’s shell, compressing to absorb impacts and rotating to mitigate rotational forces on the head. The result is a helmet that better protects from a wide range of impacts.

Additionally, the Altis has many features that are familiar to most helmets. High-Density EPS foam injection molded with polycarbonate protects the head, while 14 vents placed throughout prevent the head from overheating. In the rear of the helmet, an adjustable ratchet wheel similar to the system used in most modern helmets secures it in place.

The Altis is available in three sizes, XS/S, S/M and L/XL, as well as five colors: grey, black, white with a red accent, black camo and tan.
