It seems power meter production has exploded faster than riders have come to the realization that power is the only metric that really matters. For the most part the power explosion has consisted of companies attaching power meters to other brand’s cranks. Easton is going native with its just released Easton EC90SL Cinch Power Meter.

The ‘Cinch’ mates with the EC90SL crankset Easton launched last year, a super light carbon crank set designed to allow riders to easily swap chain ring sizes on 1x set ups or go 2x with the same crank thanks to a smart spindle and spider based interface. Check out our story on the original ‘Cinch’ system for all the details on that process.

Now Easton has put another trick up that spindle’s sleeve – power measurement. Housed entirely in the ‘Cinch’ spindle is a power meter with claimed industry standard +/-2% accuracy, a rechargeable batter with 400hours, ANT+ and BLE connectivity, cadence and efficiency data and a companion App called ‘Cinch Power Meter’ to calibrate, update and check battery level.

Housed entirely in the spindle and using the ‘Cinch’ system gives the set up incredible flexibility, allowing Easton to truly differentiate its offering from all the other power meters on the market. This one power meter can be used with 1x and 2x set ups and can even be swapped between different EC90SL crank lengths. Accessing the battery to power it up is done through a cap on the non-drive side and the entire meter adds just 65grams to the already super light EC90SL crank.

The entire EC 90SL ‘Cinch’ Power Meter makes a compelling package. We already new the cranks themselves were among the very best available and a the power meter addition comes with very little weight penalty and a very competitive price – not to mention the industry’s best set up options.
