Every once in a while we learn about a new bike that pushes the envelope or offers features we haven’t seen before in terms of technology advances or within a certain price point. We thought we had seen every bike and e-bike design on the planet, but we were clearly proven wrong. A few weeks ago, iGO reached out with information on its impressive Carbon CGV road bike and we quickly got in touch and ordered one up to review. We should have asked for two. Based in Montréal, iGO Electric was founded in 2006 and it’s now one of Canada’s largest-selling brands of e-bikes. It offers an impressive line of e-bikes from mountain, urban, leisure and road and all models are designed in Canada. We were lucky enough to get our hands on the new Carbon CGV to learn more about this brand and its offerings. You can be sure, we plan to check out more.

The CGV features a mid-drive motor system powered by BAFANG’s m800 slim-form mid motor offering 250 watts of power. Guided by torque-, cadence- and speed-sensing technologies, the system mimics the feeling of being selfpropelled and offers up impressive customization. The 36-volt battery system is also removable, and the cockpit features an integrated high-contrast, full-color LCD display. The screen features key information like motor and rider power output as the system comes with a dual power meter measuring rider input and motor power input; and the CGV boasts a 100-kilometer riding range.
Up front there is a simple ergonomic toggle control on the handlebars that’s easy to adjust for personal preferences; and the CGV features an Integrated Stem Routing system, giving the bike a clean look. You can choose the iGO Carbon CGV in two builds: Shimano 105 ($5,349) and Shimano Ultegra Di2 ($6,749).
The CGV is unique in the road e-bike category due to its extensive settings and options giving the rider the choice to decide when and where to utilize the power or push of the motor, and because there are built-in power meters you can utilize these to pace or regulate or measure interval efforts. These are impressive features for an e-bike in this price range and the more we learn about the design and real-world execution of this bike, the more we want to learn about this brand and this bike.
