You’ve trained for months, dialed-in your bike, and driven for hours only to discover you’ve left your shoes at home and can’t race. For a cyclist, it’s a horror story more disturbing than a Stephen King novel. But fear not – be race day ready with the Silca Maratona bag.

PELOTON

While this bag won’t completely save you from yourself – you still have to remember to put everything you need in it – it does create a well-organized place for all your race gear to live; and a special vented pocket for shoes lets you know at a glance whether or not you’ve grabbed this essential piece of kit. Additionally, the padded flap top unzips completely to create a self-contained work area to organize all your gear while packing letting you make sure you have everything you need.

One of our favorite features of this bag is its separate, vented compartments: one for your shoes mentioned earlier, and, arguably, a more important one to quarantine your dirty or wet clothes post ride. This is a feature we wish all travel bags had.

Thoughtfully placed pockets throughout the bag, including internal mesh ones and two external side ones, allow for easy access to small items like energy bars and tools. Silca avoids the well-intentioned pitfall of countless internal organization pockets that turns an otherwise great bag into a black hole from which nothing returns. Instead, Silca includes one large duffel-bag-style main compartment to maximize your space and a contrasting red lining that makes finding your gear a cinch during those stressful pre-race moments.

The Maratona’s design exploits the maximum airline carry-on luggage allowance resulting in up to 10L of extra space compared to other bags also claiming to maximize your space. Moderately packed, the Maratona contains 44L of space which can expand to 60L. When it’s time to hit the road, three comfortable, padded side straps let you hold the bag like a traditional duffel while fold-away straps convert it into a backpack in seconds.

The Maratona, with a waxed canvas and 600D nylon exterior, is a handsome and durable bag equally game for a bike race or multi-day non-cycling travel.  $180; silca.cc
