The moment a rogue crosswind forces you to sit up in a bunch sprint or crucial point in a race, any aero benefit a wheelset provides is lost. That’s the picture HUNT paints with the pitch for its new 60 Limitless Aero Disc wheels, which promise more speed without sacrificing stability or ride quality.

PELOTON

HUNT is no novice when it comes to aero wheels. The 60 becomes the third wheelset in the brand’s Limitless range, joining the 48 Limitless Aero Disc and the 42 Limitless Gravel Disc. All three wheelsets make use of HUNT’s Limitless Width Technology, which utilizes a co-molded low-density polymer in the outer part of the rim, allowing for a wider rim width made for higher volume tires, while keeping weight down.

While all three of those models use the same Limitless Width Technology, they’re not just scaled versions of one another; each is designed from the ground up. The design process for the 60 involved computer modeling rim profiles, creating mock ups of the most promising shapes and testing those against one another and competitors to find the rim profile yielding the lowest aerodynamic drag with the most stable handling in varying wind conditions. The winning rim shape then got produced and further tested in a wind tunnel. After all that testing, HUNT found that the optimal dimensions for a 60mm-deep rim made for 25c to 28c tires are an external width of 34mm and an internal width of 21mm.

At the 60mm depth, HUNT found that a truncated airfoil shape with a rounded but slightly less U-shaped profile than its lower profile rims provides the best tradeoff between aerodynamic drag and wheel stability. While not the absolute fastest wheel in its category, the 60 Limitless Aero Disc sits pretty close to some industry leading aero hoops, including the ENVE 5.6 SES disc and the Roval Rapide CLX, and bests some well known players like Zipp and DT Swiss. You can take a look at HUNT’s data for yourself below. But where HUNT has everyone beat is with the price. The 60 Limitless Aero Disc wheels cost just $1,519 for the set.

Optimized for 25c to 28c tires, the 60 Limitless Aero Disc comes tubeless ready, but still uses a traditional hooked rim sidewall, allowing compatibility with all clincher tires. The rims are laced to HUNT’s FastEngage Sprint hubs which feature a 7.5-degree engagement using Pillar Elliptical spokes. There is also an option to upgrade the EZO bearings to CeramicSpeed for an extra $340. All in the wheelset weighs a claimed 1,669 grams.

The wheels are available to order now, with delivery expected in April. In the meantime, keep an eye out for the wheels on the bikes of team Qhubeka ASSOS on the WorldTour, and LA Sweat in races in the U.S.
