Father’s Day dates back to the Middle Ages believe it or not. It used to be celebrated in much of Catholic Europe, in March, on St. Joseph’s Day. There were many attempts to kick off a Father’s Day here in the U.S. that fizzled until Lyndon Johnson signed a decree in 1966, and Nixon made it a permanent holiday in 1972.
Sunday is a big day for Dad, and so in addition to giving him a little extra time for that coffee ride, perhaps you’re still wrestling to find a great gift that says, “While your jokes need work, I wouldn’t trade you for the world.” In which case we present four options that don’t include any bad (or good) ties, socks, or underwear, but if we’re being honest, we can always use those too.
Single Malt Scotch-Highland Park Full Volume
The Full Volume scotch whisky from Highland Park is a nod to that rock and roll dad. He’s either the kinda guy who bemoans the music of today and or still jams with his buddies in the garage. In either case, he’d love to spend a few qualities moments alone with his thoughts and a first class glass of scotch. The Full Volume is aged in bourbon casks as a bit of a departure for the people at Highland Park, (they typically use sherry barrels) and this bottle was distilled in 1999. A little more rock and roll, and perhaps a little less country, so have no doubt, dad’s gonna love it.
Make Scents -Buckler Skincare
Skincare matters, both on the saddle and off. The use of chamois creme and embrocation have proven to make you, well, at least more comfortable, and a bit cooler. The smart people of Buckler Embrocation make what we think is the best chamois creme on the market, along with our favorite embro of all time; the San Cremo. Remember those Old Spice commercials with the “I love the smell of my daddy.” Well, consider Buckler the sort of Old Spice of the cycling set, except with a much cleaner smell, and where the San Cremo is concerned, dead sexy.

The Lone Wolf-Yakima Singlespeed
For some of us dads, our time in the saddle is about communing with our riding buddies and for others, it’s about me time. The new singlespeed from Yakima is a bicycle rack built for one, and for the lone wolf, and the storage minded, it’s perfection. The rack is lightweight, and goes on and off quick and easy. It adjusted flawlessly to any size hitch thanks to a SpeedKnob, as they like to call it. It has built in locks for both the rack to the car, and the bike to the rack, with a built in steel cable. It goes along for the ride as smoothly as any of the sturdier two bike racks but it’s small, capable and perfect for pops.
