Gravel wheel rim widths are getting wide across the board. Zipp is taking it to another level with the 101 XPLR, its first foray into gravel-specific wheels. The internal rim width of these hookless rims—available in 700c and 650b—measures a whopping 27mm, helping these wheels better support wide gravel tires and run lower pressures for more comfort. But what really sets the 101 XPLR apart is its single-wall rim construction that provides excellent compliance and vibration damping—essential qualities in a wheelset meant to spend its days on rough roads. This wheelset’s design also has additional benefits of better traction in corners and reduced pinch-flat risk. To make a good thing even better, Zipp laces the rims to its ZR1 hubs, which feature 66 points of engagement along with more durability. These wheels improve just about every aspect of the gravel-riding experience.
