Called the ‘Race to the Sun’ because the pro peloton winds its way from cold Northern France to (hopefully) sunny Nice and the Mediterranean, Paris-Nice was first contested back in 1933. Last year’s winner was Geraint Thomas, continuing a long tradition of English speaking rider’s success. Brad Wiggins, Floyd Landis, Bobby Julich, Stephen Roche and Tommy Simpson have all win Paris-Nice. Of course, the king is Sean Kelly. He won the race a record seven times, consecutively from 1981 to 1988.
