Chris Horner Signs with Lampre-Merida

Vuelta a España winner Chris Horner has signed for Lampre, the Italian team confirmed on Thursday. The 42 year-old American has been without a team since leaving RadioShack last year. Lampre will be the 12th team for whom the Japanese-born rider has competed.
Horner, who turned professional in 1995, is expected to compete in two big races this season – the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta where he will defend his title. Lampre have been rebuilding their team for next season and also signed Rui Costa, a few weeks before the Portuguese rider became world champion. The Italian outfit also have in their ranks Italian Diego Ulissi, winner of a stage in the Tour Down Under, his compatriot Damiano Cunego and Polish climbing specialist Przemyslaw Niemiec, sixth in last year’s Giro.
Horner will line up for his new team in the Mallorca Challenge from February 9-12 in Spain.
