Day One of the 2018 Cyclocross World Championships in Valkenburg – Limburg, Netherlands is in the books. The Belgian favorite Cant Sanne delivered the Elite Women’s win after a scintillating battle with American Katie Compton. After a back and forth struggle, Cant used her running legs to distance Compton on the final lap. Lucinda Brand from the Netherlands gave the host country the final podium spot. The circuit was a muddy mess, with just four laps being completed by the Elite women. Enjoy these images by Balint Hamvas from Day One of the World Cyclocross Championship.

Ben Tullet from the United Kingdom won the Junior Men’s race, with Evie Richards also of the UK winning the Women’s U23 race. The future is certainly bright for the UK, with 17year old Harriet Harnden from the UK finishing fourth in the Women’s U23 race. Unfortunately there is no stand alone Junior Women’s race.
The U23 and Elite Men race tomorrow with chance of snow to help create more of a muddy mess.
