Generally, training indoors is not our first choice…or second or third. But sometimes, whether it’s lack of daylight or bad weather keeping us from the great outdoors, it’s simply a necessity. With indoor riding receiving ample attention from cycling companies and riders alike, there have been myriad new products, each making the experience a little better. One of the latest, the Saris MP1 Nfinity trainer platform, is one of the most unique training products to date, and steps the indoor experience up a notch. Compatible with nearly any trainer, this platform moves fore and aft and side to side to create a more realistic indoor riding experience. Here are some of our favorite parts of using the MP1.

The Feel

Introducing movement to your indoor riding has a transformative effect. Having the ability to move 6 degrees side to side and 9.5 inches fore and aft helps make indoor training time feel a lot more like the real thing. You notice a difference from the first time you swing a leg over your toptube.

Immersive Experience

While it doesn’t quite go toe to toe with riding outside,  the subtle movement of the MP1 helps remove that cognitive barrier where you’re aware you’re riding indoors. When coupled with a virtual training software like Zwift or Rouvy,  you can easily become immersed into your ride as you would on the open road.

Long Training Session Comfort

Riding for prolonged periods on a trainer alone can lead to discomfort and numbness at the touch points. By adding motion to the equation, the MP1 reduces saddle and foot pressure, letting you ride for longer and get more out of your indoor sessions.

Engages More Muscles

In addition to relieving pressure and making rides feel more like the real thing, the MP1’s motion recruits the same muscles used for balance on real rides, including ones from the upper body. On hard workouts, you can really feel the core and upper body engaging more.

Ease of Setup

We were a little worried about setup at first with the MP1, but those fears quickly faded once it arrived completely assembled at the Peloton service course. All we had to do was take it out of the box and strap in a trainer. Because we test a lot of different products here, we’re also happy to have the option to use any nearly trainer with it in the future. For most people who won’t be upgrading trainers all that often, you can just set yours and forget about it. And if the time for an upgrade comes, the MP1 will be ready.

The MP1 Nfinity is compatible with just about any trainer out there, whether it’s badged Saris or not.
